The state yesterday announced $92 million in PENNVEST water projects in thirteen counties, including one in Indiana County.
Ernest Borough will receive about $750,000 for a storm water management project. A $501,465 loan and a $248,535 grant will help pay for the installation of storm water piping, inlet boxes, end walls, rock riprap, and a storm water detention basin, which should help mitigate the flooding issues along Store Hill Road, where fifty properties have sustained flood damage.
Funding for the projects comes from a combination of voter-approved state money, the Growing Greener program, Marcellus Legacy funds, federal grants to PENNVEST from the EPA, and recycled loan payments from previous projects.
The projects are divided among four categories. In addition to storm water management, the other categories are drinking water, wastewater, and non-point source water quality improvement projects.
