The Homer City Area Athletic Booster Club will look forward to welcoming baseball fans back to First Commonwealth Bank Field for the 2018 Pennsylvania Youth American Legion Western Regional Tournament. The tournament will run Saturday, July 21st through Wednesday, July 25th.
There will be eight teams in the double elimination tournament with the top three advancing to the State Championship tournament in Spring City beginning on July 28th.
There will be four games on Opening Day of the Western Regional at First Commonwealth Bank Field. Here is a look at the schedule:
10:30 AM Punxsutawney vs. Murrysville
1:30 PM Corry vs. Monroeville
5:00 PM Young Township vs. Millcreek
7:30 PM Marion Center vs. Rockwood
While the tournament will feature some familiar faces, there are also some newcomers and teams that haven’t appeared in many years. Millcreek, the Northwest League Champion will be making their 15th appearance in the Western Regionals, tying S.W. Jack of Indiana for the most. Corry, a suburb of Erie, will be making its first-ever appearance.
Indiana County League Runner-Up Young Township will make its 5th appearance overall, but first since 1997. Monroeville, the Westmoreland County League Runner-Up makes just its second appearance all-time and is looking for its first win. Rockwood, the Somerset County League Champion, qualified for the western regional for the first time since 1997.
Punxsutawney Post 62, formerly Fezell Enterprises, won the Indiana County Youth Legion League Title and will make its first regional appearance since 2008. After a few years away, Doug Mesoraco also returned as Manager. Mesoraco guided Punxsutawney to a state title in 2002, the last team from Western PA to claim a Youth Legion State Championship.

Marion Center, which lost to Punxsutawney in the first round of the Indiana County Youth Legion League playoffs, will serve as the host team of the Western Regional.
The Homer City Area Athletic Booster Club will be the host organization for the tournament although Marion Center will serve as the host team. A wide variety of food and beverages will be available. Food and beverages will not be permitted to be carried into First Commonwealth Bank Field.
