State Representative Jeff Pyle is saying that Governor Tom Wolf’s basic education funding proposal is unfair to school districts.
In a statement, Pyle, who represents Armstrong, Butler and Indiana Counties, said he joined with other House members in voicing his objection of Governor Wolf’s Basic Education Funding Formula, saying that it will not only hurt the school districts but the community as well.
Among the examples he cited included the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District, who saw their funding cut by 53% to $4,440,478 under Wolf’s plan. Pyle said it is projected that 357 school districts out of 500 in the state would be negatively affected by the new funding formula, and that could force districts to raise property taxes. Pyle called it “absurd and unacceptable” because the news came out so close to the time when districts have to file their budgets.
