Today will be a motions hearing for Todd Walters, the man accused of killing his mother in February of 2015.
Walters faces charges of Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Assault for the death of 72-year-old Ruth Shirey at her home on Diamond Avenue in Indiana. He allegedly beat her to death, and then took her car and drove it to Altoona, where police would later catch up with him. Shirey was pronounced dead at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Since that time, Walters has spent a lot of time at Torrence State Hospital undergoing numerous mental health evaluations and competency hearings, resulting in several involuntary committals. On June 11th, Judge William Martin deemed that Walters was competent to stand trial, and all previous stays of Walter’s case were vacated.
Walters case will also come up for Criminal Call on September 7th.
