State police have released statistics on the Fourth of July travel period, and they show that stats concerning crashes and fatalities have gone down.
Across the state, state troopers investigated a total of 581 crashes between July 3rd and July 5th. Two of those crashes were fatal crashes and three people were killed in those crashes. 146 people were injured in all of the crashes. 37 crashes were alcohol-related, but there were no alcohol-related fatalities. Comparing to last year’s Independence Day driving period, there were 741 total crashes, 13 fatal crashes and 13 people who died, with four of the fatal crashes alcohol-related. Also 259 people were injured.
As far as other enforcement efforts went across the state, Troopers made 316 DUI Arrests, issued 8,577 speeding citations, 173 child safety seat citations and 778 seatbelt citations. Among all those statistics, the only one that increased from last year was the seatbelt citations, which was up from 764 last year.
Breaking down the stats further, Troop A, which includes Indiana County, 38 crashes were investigated, with one of the crashes a fatal crash and one person killed in that crash. That crash was the one Thursday at Pikel’s gas station in Home. Eleven people were injured in the 38 crashes, and 2 of the crashes were alcohol-related.
Troop A troopers also made 20 DUI arrests, issued 820 speeding tickets, six child safety seat citations and 64 seatbelt citations.
