The Homer City borough council approved an exception to its open-container policy for a local business at Tuesday night’s meeting. And with Independence Day celebrations in motion, the chief of police offered recommendations for safe firework use over the holiday.
The council approved a motion to grant Disobedient Spirits on Main Street permission for its customers to drink alcoholic beverages at the tables outside of the establishment. Council vice president Kal Cecconi said the motion was mainly a formality:
“It’s not that it’s that big of a deal, i just think it- you know, do it how it’s supposed to be done.”
The council also approved the Homer Center high school’s homecoming parade slated for September 21st.
In police chief Anthony Jellison’s report to council, he discussed recent loosening of laws restricting aerial fireworks, and stressed safe firework practice and consideration for your neighbors:
“Make sure that alcohol and fireworks don’t mix. Save your alcohol for after the show. Also a reminder that pets, and elderly, and vets, might be irritated by the loud noises, so make sure that they keep them in their minds also while setting off fireworks.”
Jellison also reminds residents of the noise ordinance:
“As of right now, we have to go with the noise ordinance, which is at ten o’clock, until we can figure out what’s going on and revamp our noise ordinance.”
