Margaret “Joyce” (Gromley) Mogle, 85, of Mahaffey, PA died on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Harmon Blair and Linnie Viola (Smith) Gromley, she was born on February 17, 1933 in Starford, PA.
Joyce was a 1951 graduate of Green Township High School, where she served as the class chaplain and head cheerleader. In her youth, she was extremely fond of roller skating.
Joyce earned a cosmetology degree. Always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, her career as a hairdresser evolved into her ownership of a beauty shop in Indianapolis, IN.
For fifteen years, Joyce was employed as a machine operator for Burroughs Corp. in Park Ridge, NJ. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Richard, moved to Mahaffey, PA in May 1983.
For most of her life, Joyce loved participating in events at Mahaffey Camp, where her family owned a cottage.
A very active and devout Christian, she had recently attended the Faith Bible Church in Curwensville, PA and had previously worshiped at the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Mahaffey, PA.
A woman of faith and song, she loved gospel singing. Joyce had sung with The Pilgrims, a gospel group from Mahaffey, PA. Especially in the summertime, Joyce would travel all over the local area to attend gospel sings and gospel singing weekends.
Community minded, Joyce had been actively involved in the events of the Mahaffey Senior Center and for many years enjoyed volunteering at the Mahaffey Sr. Center booth during the Harmony Fair.
She thoroughly enjoyed being with her family, particularly her children and grandchildren.
She married Richard Ross Mogle, Sr. on November 22, 1952 and they shared 31 years of marriage.
Joyce is survived by her three children: Richard R. Mogle, Jr. and wife, Diane L. of Latrobe, PA; Don Mogle and wife, Debbie of Ft. Worth, TX; Malinda “Lindy” Russo and husband, Tom of Branchburg, NJ; her niece, who was like a daughter to her: Gloria Mentch and husband, William of Erie, PA; her three grandchildren: Jessica Shine and husband, William; Kristen Tormenti and husband, Matt and Jocelyn Herman and husband, Mark; her five great-grandchildren: Emerson Shine; Sebastian Shine; Lio Tormenti; Luca Tormenti and Caleb Herman; and her sister, Luella Gromley of Starford, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on October 12, 1984 and her two brothers: Kenneth Gromley and Wendell Gromley.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where an 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Interment will follow at Rowley Cemetery in Hillsdale, PA.
