A new era began yesterday at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, as the IRMC main campus and all satellite locations became tobacco-free. The policy, of course, applies inside all IRMC facilities, but now includes outdoors as well, and there is no smoking permitted inside vehicles if they are parked on IRMC property.
The tobacco-free policy includes cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vaping, and smokeless tobacco.
IRMC says the elimination of tobacco use demonstrates its commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for all patients, visitors, employees, volunteers, and other guests. Patients who smoke or use other tobacco may ask their healthcare provider to prescribe a smoking cessation aid while they are at the medical center.
There is another major announcement coming from the Indiana Regional Medical Center. Mark Richards will join Indiana In the Morning to tell us about it at 8:45 this morning.
