Down in the minors, the Altoona Curve blew some late chances and lost to the Akron Rubber Ducks 4-3 to drop the opener of a five-game series. Altoona left seven runners on base during the game, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the eighth that were blown. Akron had an early 2-1 lead, but Altoona had tied it up in the second. But the seventh inning was the downfall as the Rubber Ducks picked up two runs to put them ahead for good. Altoona tried to rally in the 9th and got one run on the board, but it wasn’t enough. The Curve and the Rubber Ducks play again today.
Speaking of the curve, Will Craig, Ke’Bryan Hayes, Taylor Hearn and Sean Keselica will represent the curve at the Eastern League all-star game. The game will be played July 11th in Trenton, New Jersey.
