An Indiana County Park has been named part of a new tourism trail that pays tribute to Fred Rogers.
As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the PA Tourism office announced their project with Fred Rogers Productions, The McFeely-Rogers Foundation, The Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau, and Visit Pittsburgh. The Fred Rogers trail takes people to various sites in Westmorealand, Allegheny and Indiana County that were important to Rogers, either personally or professionally. One of the stops on that trail is Buttermilk Falls, which was land owned by Rogers’ grandfather from 1931 to 1956, and was used as a family retreat. The park still has stone foundations and retaining walls from the estate and trails named after Rogers and his grandfather, Fred McFeely. Other sites on the trail include Idlewild Park and Soakzone, the home of the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood attraction, The Fred Rogers Center at St. Vincent College, and WQED Studios, where Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was filmed.
