Blairsville borough council approved a final location for a cell phone tower, and that location has changed from what was originally proposed.
At the Borough Council meeting in May, Verizon had proposed that the tower would be located adjacent to the fire department building, but several area residents were not in favor of the move, saying that it would be an eyesore to the community. The location approved by council last night would be behind the borough offices, and Councilman Ab Dettorre said the tower will not be as visible as it would be at the other location.
In other business it was announced that the Blairsville Free Methodist Church purchased a lot across from their facilities on Stewart Street to be renovated into a parking lot for their parishioners. Dettorre said that the church has a lot of stipulations that need followed, but the land use was approved unanimously.
