The Clymer borough council discussed a recent late-night nuisance affecting a number of residents, and heard from citizens concerned about the speed of traffic on their street.
Someone has been setting off large fireworks from their vehicle in the area of Morris and 6th Streets. Clymer Fire Chief Jeffery Gromley shared his experience in his report to the council, stating that he has been woken up as late as 3 AM. The most recent incident occurred this past weekend:
“As soon as I went out the front door– ‘Poof! Poof!’ And I could see them parked in the middle of 6th Street, and I’m like, you gotta be kidding me! This is a joke!”
By ordinance, fireworks cannot be set off within 100 feet of a house. Board president Louis Tate mentioned also the possibility of updating its noise ordinance to include fireworks, but the issue will be discussed further at the June 26th Committee meeting. In the mean time, anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the borough offices at 254-9884.
In other news, the council heard from two Walcott Street residents concerned with the speed of traffic and vehicles running stop signs in the area. Tate said the borough is in the process of conducting studies for the potential installation of speed bumps on certain streets.
The next business meeting will be on July 10.
