For the second time in a week, there’s been a theft of Tide laundry detergent pods from the Dollar General store in Conemaugh Township, and it is apparently part of a growing trend of Tide thefts across the nation.
The latest Tide theft happened at about 9:21 PM on Saturday, and police say this time the thief stole about eight tubs of Tide pods. The suspect is described only as a white male.
The suspect in last week’s theft at the same store was also a white male in his mid-twenties to thirties, about six feet tall, with a thin build, a beard and mustache. He stole four packs of batteries, five packages of Tide pods, and six packages of Gain laundry detergent. We posted his picture with the story on our website and Facebook page.
If you know anything about the latest theft, you’re asked to call state police at 357-1960.
Authorities believe Tide is being used as a sort of currency because it’s so much more expensive than other detergents. People trade it for drugs and drug dealers sell it at reduced prices. State police have not said that that’s what’s happening with the recent thefts at the Dollar General.
