Commencement ceremonies last night were cancelled at United High School due to a perceived bomb threat.
State Police say ten members of the United High School Senior Class went into an area of the school that was locked off and off-limits to students around 12:53 Friday afternoon. One of the ten was seen carrying a backpack when he entered the crawlspace of the school. When school administrators saw this happen on security cameras, they called state police to the scene. Troopers performed a search of the crawlspace and their search turned up negative results.
Because the school complex itself is a large place, police and school staff brought in K-9 Units to conduct a more thorough search, and K-9 and Bomb Squad units from Pittsburgh were called in. No explosive or dangerous items were found in the building.
Police are categorizing this as a case of disorderly conduct, and the identities of the ten students involved has not been released. Graduation Ceremonies were re-scheduled for Monday, June 4th.
