A new quarterly billing cycle takes effect for Penelec customers tomorrow, and it brings with it a rate increase.
Penelec says the residential electricity rate will increase to 6.22 cents per kilowatt hour. For the average customer using 750 kilowatt hours per month, that means a hike of $2.59 in the monthly bill, from $98.23 to 100.82.
Increased use of air conditioning during the summer months will lead to a rising demand for electricity, according to the company. The next rate adjustment will take effect in October.
