Last night was the senior ceremony for students at the Indiana County Technology Center, but before those ceremonies got underway, seniors in the nursing program paid tribute to one of their teachers that has made a large impact in their young lives.
Heidi Allison is a teacher in the nursing program at ICTC, but she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bile Duct Cancer last October. She has received cancer treatments throughout the school year, including a recent surgery. The timing though was not good as she would have to miss this year’s senior ceremony as she recovered. Students and some of the staff decided last night that before the official ceremonies started at the junior high, the senior nursing students would visit her at her home, giving them a chance to say thank you to her.
Kelly Fox, a counselor at ICTC said that the visit was a complete surprise to her. Students showed up right at her front door, presenting her with a rose, and standing for a class picture with her after each student said thank you to her.
Mike Clark of WTAE TV was also brought in to record the ceremony, and we have his video on our Facebook page. Meanwhile, efforts are continuing to try and bring Allison’s story to the Ellen DeGeneres show. The student-produced video can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPqAKuE-C_I
