The Blairsville-Saltsburg school board voted on the tentative budget for the 2018-19 school year at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Prior to the start of the regular voting session, business manager Angela Mellinger presented an overview of the 2018-19 preliminary budget, which included a breakdown of revenue sources and expenditures.
Later, the board discussed the $31,388,596 budget, which stands currently with a deficit of $11,406. Though vice president Holly Hall shared the idea of a small rise in millage rates now, to avoid a larger, sudden increase in the future, the board ultimately decided on no tax increase for the time being. The millage rate in Indiana County should remain then at 15.98, which would mark the tenth straight year without an increase. The final budget will be passed during the June 26th meeting.
In other news, the board approved the hiring of Joseph Hughes as Director of Buildings & Grounds and Transportation, as well as the hiring of a long-term substitute for the Blairsville campus.
Lastly, beginning next school year, Homer-Center students interested in wrestling will be able to wrestle for the Blairsville Bobcats through a pending co-op agreement.
