A Pittsburgh Steelers Legend will be in Indiana tonight to accept an award from the Jimmy Stewart Museum.
To kick off the museum’s anniversary weekend and their celebration of Jimmy Stewart’s 110th birthday, the Jimmy Stewart museum will honor Steelers halfback Rocky Bleier with the George Bailey award tonight at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana. The award honors good friends of the museum “who have touched the lives of others through their actions and the examples they set” like the character Stewart played in It’s A Wonderful Life. Past recipients of the award include Tony Renda, Sr., the CEO of Renda Broadcasting, Carson Greene, Jr., Rich Little, Nick and Nina Clooney, the Indiana Fire Association and Christopher Collins.
Jimmy Stewart Foundation President Tim Harley said Bleier’s life on the football field, in the military, and in charitable works exemplifies what the George Bailey award is all about.
Greene said that Bleier’s appearance has sparked the interest of the Stewart family. One of Jimmy’s daughters, Judy, will be here for the celebration and make an appearance at the dinner tonight and at events planned for the weekend.
Tonight’s festivities start at 6:00 with a cocktail hour, and the dinner starts at 7:00. This is one part of a weekend-long celebration which includes special showings of It’s A Wonderful Life on Saturday and Sunday, the Randy Riggle Nostalgia Show Saturday at 1:30 at the Indiana Theater, a presentation on the restoration of Jimmy’s personal airplane at the airport at 2:30 Saturday, and a birthday party Sunday to include an antique auto show, birthday cake and a free magic show at the museum.
