Indiana Borough police have filed charges against an Indiana man after an incident involving his young daughter in the 200 block of School Street yesterday afternoon.
It happened shortly after 4 PM when police were summoned for a report of a toddler wandering the street alone in the rain. They found the little girl wet and barefoot, and located the father, 29-year-old Kadeem Meggett, who came to the scene. Police say he was hostile to them, and when he tried to walk away with the girl, he began to scold her “viciously yelling at her and vigorously (shaking) her body while holding her in the air.” He then resisted police as they attempted to take him into custody.
Meggett was placed in the Indiana County Jail to await arraignment before District Judge Chris Welch on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Borough police also report charges of driving under the influence against 53-year-old Laura Thomas of Indiana, whose vehicle got hung up on the in the 300 block of Philadelphia Street just before 6 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The vehicle’s driver’s side front wheel was in the air spinning, as Thomas had her foot on the accelerator. Police tried to get her to shut off the vehicle, but she would not, so an officer broke out the passenger side window and climbed into the vehicle to turn it off.
Thomas was taken into custody and was charged with DUI, careless driving, and public drunkenness.
