UPDATE: McNevin was sentenced to 27.5 years to 60 years in state prison for the guilty pleas in the shooting death of Carlos Recalde-Campos and wounding of Samantha Riley. He was also sentenced in connection with the crimes that he is accused of committing while in prison, and was ordered to serve between 3-9 years for those charges, but that sentence will run concurrent to the murder sentence.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
A number of criminal defendants are scheduled for sentencing in Indiana County Court today, including 21-year-old Matthew McNevin, the Rayne Township man who shot and killed a man and wounded a woman in March of last year during the IUPattys event.
At a motions hearing in February, McNevin pleaded guilty to third degree murder and aggravated assault in the death of 21-year-old Carlos Recalde-Campos and the wounding of Samantha Jo Riley at an Oakland Avenue rental home. He faces a maximum penalty of forty years in prison for murder and twenty years for aggravated assault.
Since his guilty plea, McNevin has also pleaded guilty to aggravated harassment by a prisoner for assaulting a guard at the Indiana County Jail and for institutional vandalism for damage to his prison cell. Those cases are scheduled for sentencing today as well.
Interestingly, McNevin last month filed a motion to discharge his attorney from the public defender’s office and has been granted new counsel.
