Drivers in the Plum Creek area of Washington Township saw the Route 954 bridge re-open as the bridge replacement project is nearing completion.
The bridge reopened May 4th, but driver’s will still feel a slight bump as they drive across the bridge until a polyester polymer concrete overlay is put down on the bridge deck. This is usually the very last step in the process in the box beam bridge projects, and the overlay will protect the bridge deck from wear and tear from the harsh winter weather. This final layer can only be applied when temperatures are consistently over 40 degrees and there’s a stretch of good weather. The workers also have to wait 30 days for the concrete to cure completely before they can go ahead with this. When that happens, the bridge’s traffic will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers controlling traffic in both directions.
The Route 954 bridge was part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement project with PennDOT and Plenary-Walsh Keystone Partners. The agreement has Plenary-Walsh financing, designing, replacing and maintain the bridges for the next 25 years.
