The political group behind a recent advertisement concerning a candidate in the race for the republican nomination for the 62nd District seat in the state house has announced they will be sending another one out soon that will correct their mistake.
Thursday evening, the topic of a recent political ad that was included in the mail was brought up on social media by House Majority Leader Dave Reed, who is not running for re-election. Reed posted a lengthy statement on Facebook saying the ad that was paid for by Citizen’s Alliance of Pennsylvania is “flat out lying” about Jim Struzzi, one of the candidates in the race. The ad attacked Struzzi because of social media posts made by his father, who has the same name, in support of then-president Obama.
Julie Anderson, another candidate in the race, also took to Facebook, denying being privy to the ad, or even aware that it was going out.
We talked with CAP’s Leo Knepper, who said that they will be sending a new mailer out correcting the mistakes they made. Knepper also said that Anderson was not connected in any way with the mailer. The mailer was put together by their 501(c4) as an independent expenditure, and federal law prohibits coordinating the non-profit activities with a candidate, meaning that Anderson was not connected with the ad at all.
Late yesterday, Struzzi issued a statement on his campaign’s facebook page, stating that he will continue to focus on a positive, issue-oriented campaign and will not participate in negative politics.
