Those driving through IUP may see some new additions to campus as the Allegheny Aboretum at IUP has planted eight new trees on campus.
Five of the trees are planted in IUP’s Oak Grove, while the remaining trees were planted on the East Lawn of John Sutton Hall. The trees were planted in celebration of both Earth Day and Arbor Day. The new trees in the oak grove are meant to increase the number and species diversity of trees in the oak grove. The new trees are red maples, willow oaks, sawtooth oaks, and a triumph elm.
The Allegheny Arboretum at IUP was formed in 2000 and is dedicated to the living history of trees, vines, shrubs and other plants. It has received rave reviews by “Best College Reviews” as the best college arboretum.
