The unemployment rate for Indiana County fell in the month of March.
The State Department of Labor and Industry reported that March’s Seasonally-Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Indiana County went down four-tenths of a percentage point to 5.3%. Indiana’s unemployment rate is still higher than the statewide unemployment average at 4.8 percent.
Comparing Indiana County with our neighbors, Jefferson and Westmoreland tied with 4.6% unemployment each, Clearfield had 5.0% Cambria had 5.2% and Armstrong County tied with Indiana with the highest in the region with 5.3%. Indiana is ranked 52nd among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties for the lowest unemployment rate.
Nonfarm jobs in the area were essentially unchanged over the month of March. Over the last year, jobs have increased by 100. The State Government sector was the only area that showed any marked movement in the last month, as they lost 100 jobs.
