The Indiana County Humane Society is helping with the recent rescue of several dogs from a Northern Indiana County barn where they were living in deplorable conditions.
State Police from Punxsutawney reported on the rescue, and they have charged Thomas F. McDaniel Jr. of Smicksburg with several animal neglect-related crimes. 24 of the dogs that were found in the barn are now in the care of the Humane Society, and their workers have been cleaning off the sludge they were in and nursing them back to health. The Humane Society also said the dogs had very little human contact.
Right now, they are looking for people to donate more materials to help with their care, including a new washer as theirs broke while working on the extra laundry loads from the rescue. They also need bleach, blankets, hand sanitizer, lamb and rice dog food, and dawn dish soap. They also are looking for extra money for preventative vaccines and medicines.
As far as adoption goes, that may be a ways off. The dogs need to be brought back to good health and socialized before they are cleared for adoption. Donations can be dropped off at the Humane Society, and people can call 724-465-7387 if they have any questions.
