Richard D. Harsh, age 77 of Indiana, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 with his loving family by his side at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana.
He was born in 1940 in Lucernemines to Harold C. and Bernatha Miller Harsh. Richard was an active volunteer with the Blairsville School District where he was a volunteer assistant coach for the girl’s softball team and the shop classes. He also helped with set design and construction for several musicals.
He enjoyed taking the elementary classes on many walks around the nature trail.
He was employed by PennDOT for 37 years as a bridge inspector and foreman before retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed spending many hours in his woodshop, trips to the casinos, and spending time with his cat Linus.
Richard is survived by a daughter Denise M. Moore and husband Jerry, Blairsville; a grandson Justin Baltz, Blairsville; three brothers – Ted Harsh and wife Jean, Kiser, WV; Jack Harsh and wife Thelma, Blairsville; Jim V. Harsh and wife Gladys, Grafton, OH; one brother-in-law – Leonard “Butch” Bouch, Penn Run; a sister-in-law – Judy Bouch Chapla and husband Joseph, Blairsville; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Belle Bouch Harsh in 2012, by three sisters and one brother – Kathryn Chapla and husband Joseph, Viola Stancisa and husband Louie, Nellie Busani and husband Benito, Harold Harsh and wife Betsy, two infant sisters – Leona and Violet Harsh, and sister-in-law Nancy Bouch.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 7 to 9 and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 A.M. with the Rev. B.L. Taylor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Citizens Ambulance Service, 805 Hospital Road, Indiana, PA 15701 or the VNA Association, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
