The Indiana School Board last night authorized the buildings, grounds and transportation committee to look at two architectural firms in order to provide architectural design services for five projects in the district.
The projects are modifying the office configurations at both Eisenhower and East Pike, providing an elevator at Horace Mann, providing an accessible path to the middle section of Ben Franklin, and discuss and propose a meaningful district-wide feasibility study.
The main discussion point on this issue was that this is the second time that this kind of motion has come up. At their meeting on March 26th, a similar motion was passed with a $10,000 limit on administrative fees. The main difference was the removal of a Ben Franklin Project that would house 450 students, and would be either a renovation of the elementary school or a new building altogether. Board member Doug Steve said that some of the work may be unnecessary as designs for the modifications to Eisenhower, East Pike and Horace Mann have been done by McKissick and Associates. The motion ultimately passed with Doug Steve voting against it. The board also approved a motion to rescind the motion from the March 26th meeting concerning the $10,000. Schroth said that the motion to rescind was meant to clarify the board’s direction.
The board also approved a contract with Gittings Protective Security for a security audit of all the district buildings, setting a completion date of July 15th for that project. The board also approved up to four buses to take ICTC students to the ICTC on days Indiana School District has non-instructional days. This would now make it mandatory for ICTC students to be in class when the district is not in session.
