Catherine Eileen “Cathy” Gress, age 51, of Shelocta died Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
She was a Spina Bifida adult who faced many challenges, physically and mentally. Over her lifetime, she enjoyed proving Doctors wrong. While she was unsuccessful this time, she is at peace.
She was born in 1966 in Fort Devens, MA to LeRoy and Sandra Thompson Gress. Cathy was a member of the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church. Cathy was employed at the Indiana County Workshop for over
30 years.
She was a hard worker and enjoyed earning her paycheck. Her co-workers were extra special as she not only worked with them, she grew up with them. Her supervisors were also very special to her. Cathy loved everyone that she met.
She is survived by her parents of Shelocta; two brothers and one sister – Matthew, Elderton; Stephen and wife Ellen, Frederick, MD; Emily Stayshich and husband Ryan, Churchill; five nieces and one nephew – Madison, Laken, Katie, Jordan, and Emma Catherine and Jared; a special aunt Becky Perseo and husband Joe, Indiana; cousins – Sarah and husband Adam; Kevin and Toni; Autum, Sumer, and Gideon.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents – Lewis and Rebecca Gress, maternal grandparents – Charles and Mary Helen Thompson, one aunt and three uncles -Mary Helen Thompson Gunter and husband Richard, Charles Edward Thompson, Jr., Ronald William Gress.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, and on Friday from 10 to 11 A.M., where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Kathy Nice officiating.
Interment will be made in Elderton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelocta
