Jake Guentzel racked up four goals, including a hat trick in the third period alone, as the Penguins advanced to the second round of the playoffs with an 8-5 rout of the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists for the Pens, who won the best-of-seven quarterfinal series four-games-to-two. Matt Murray made 21 saves in the victory.
The Penguins played without Evgeni Malkin, who was injured in Friday’s loss in Pittsburgh. Carl Hagelin did not return to the ice after suffering a facial injury in the second period. Patric Hornqvist returned to the lineup after missing one game, and despite a turnover that led to a Flyers’ goal, Hornqvist was a factor for the Penguins, scoring a goal and leading the physical play.
The Pens will face Columbus or Washington in the second round. The Capitals lead that series 3-2 heading into Game Six tonight in Columbus.
