Mildred H. “Penrod” Gearhart, age 87, of Homer City, passed away Wednesday, April, 18, 2018 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home.
She was born in 1931 to Harold and Jane C. Adams Penrod in Johnstown.
She graduated from Johnstown Sr. High School in 1949 and married James F. Gearhart on June 29, 1951.
Mildred attended the Hope Lutheran Church, Homer City where she enjoyed fundraising baking apple dumplings and making Easter Eggs. She was also a Sunday School teacher at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Johnstown.
She was a member of the Secret Sisters and the Golden Silver Club in Homer City.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed at Cookie Jar Bakery and the Arrow Furniture in Johnstown.
She is survived by two daughters and a son, Sharon Dressman and husband Ken, Morgantown, WV; David Gearhart and wife Loretta, Indiana; Jane Gearhart, Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James F. Gearhart in 2012, a son James F. Gearhart Jr., her daughter Carol Ann Williams, her twin brother Morgan Penrod, and her sister Sara Jane Naugle.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 10 A.M. to 12 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen C. Bond officiating.
Interment will be made in Richland Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church, 35 Ridge Ave, Homer City, PA 15748.
