Bon-Ton Stores, Incorporated announced yesterday that its going-out-of-business sale will begin today, with the liquidation anticipated to last from ten to twelve weeks. That, of course, includes the Indiana Mall store.
Bon-Ton operates retail stores in 23 states under seven nameplates, including Bon_Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, and Younkers. The company is based in York, and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In a statement released yesterday, Bon-Ton president and CEO Bill Tracy expressed disappointment that the company was unable to find a buyer who would keep the stores open. Two liquidators were the only bidders at a Chapter Eleven Bankruptcy Court auction on Monday, despite the company’s expressed optimism last week that negotiations with a combined group of retailers would be successful.
