BANKS TOWNSHIP
For the second straight day, state police have issued a report on a scam attempted last month in northern Indiana County.
It involved a 69-year-old Rossiter, Banks Township woman who told police that she was contacted repeatedly by telephone on March 28th by a man identifying himself as Robert Nelson, and claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House. Each time, the woman was told to send money orders of various amounts in order to cover the expenses from winning a large cash prize.
Police say the caller’s name, Robert Nelson, is probably fake, and advise anyone who may receive a call asking for money that is very likely a scam. They say Publishers Clearing House does not solicit funds prior to distributing winnings.
WHITE TOWNSHIP
A Venango County man has been charged with using a bad check to purchase merchandise from a White Township company. State police say 41-year-old Kevin Edward Noble of Emlenton bought $1,203.37 worth of items from plumbing and heating distributor APR Supply, on Shelly Drive, in January. Noble did not have sufficient funds to cover the checks.
BRUSH VALLEY TOWNSHIP
Police are investigating an attempted burglary in Brush Valley Township. A 36-year-old Indiana woman reported that someone broke into the house along Snyder Road, removed her pictures from the walls, dumped storage bins onto the floor, and opened her jewelry boxes, but did not break or steal anything. The break-in happened last Saturday between 4 PM and 10:30.
BLACK LICK TOWNSHIP
A Saltsburg man escaped injury last weekend in an accident in Black Lick Township, but police say he is facing charges for leaving the scene. Police say 26-year-old Raymond Cairn’s vehicle left Grange Road and smashed head-on into a tree at 8:38 AM on Sunday. He fled the scene but was later located at his home.
