A major new traffic shift takes place today in the Route 119 construction zone in Homer City and Center Township.
Starting today, northbound traffic on 119 will switch to one of the southbound lanes between the Route 56 and Luzerne Road intersections. While the new traffic pattern is in effect, East Church Street will be closed for reconstruction of its intersection with 119. The northbound lanes are expected to remain closed until late July.
It’s all part of the multi-year $15.25 million Route 119 Homer City Three Bridges Project, which includes the rehabilitation of the bridge over Yellow Creek and the removal of the bridges over Tide Road and an abandoned railroad line. Tide Road will became an at-grade intersection with 119. The project will also widen Route 119 and a concrete barrier will be installed to separate the northbound and southbound lanes. The traffic signals at the 119/56 intersection will also be replaced.
The work on this section of Route 119 through Homer City began last summer and is expected to be completed in the late fall of next year.
Also today, a reminder that Newport Road in Blacklick and Conemaugh townships is now closed between Clarksburg Road and Grange Road for a bridge rehabilitation project that is expected to be completed in September.
