Preparations are underway for a guest speaker tonight at the Toretti Auditorium inside the KCAC, and that includes some road and parking restrictions near the arena.
IUP has sent out a notice that campus traffic may increase and parking availability may be limited at the KCAC tonight. This is due to a program at the KCAC tonight being hosted by Turning Point USA at IUP, a student run politically-based group. The group is hosting Turning Point USA’s founder and executive director Charlie Kirk for his lecture.
While Kirk does have a following, there have also been reports of protests going on outside the arenas where he has been speaking, including a violent clash at Colorado State University in February, where a separate group clashed with people in the area. No arrests were made by police at that time.
IUP’s executive director of communications and media relations Michelle Fryling said that “as with all events on campus, appropriate security procedures and precautions are being taken.”
IUP’s parking services has announced that The KCAC dock, stadium south parking lot and stadium north parking lots will have restricted access today. All parking for the event will be directed to the KCAK parking lot along Wayne Avenue. Starting at 5:00 tonight, Pratt Drive from Wayne Avenue to the KCAC Dock will be closed to all through traffic. Any patrons of the Hilton Garden Inn will still be able to access their lot through the Wayne Avenue entrance. All vehicles parked in the stadium lot will be required to exit on the 11th street side of the lot and vehicles in the stadium south lot must be out by 5:00 PM, or they could be towed.
