At Saturday’s annual Fool’s Run race, the winners in the 10K were Indiana High senior Joey Bujdos for the men and Sara Zambotti of Shelocta, who not only won the womnen’s division, but was also the second overall finisher. For the 5K, Mindy Sawtelle-Zottola won the women’s division and Jonathan Gearhart won the men’s division, with Sawtelle-Zottola finishing first overall.
In professional sports, on Saturday evening the Pirates blew a 4-0 lead and lost to the Reds, 7-4, as Cincinnati’s Eugenio Suarez hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the 8th inning of reliever George Kontos. The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Sunday at PNC Park in a game you can hear on WCCS, AM 1160 and FM 101.1, beginning at 12:35 PM with the pregame show.
After the final standings were determined in the NHL’s regular season Saturday, the Pittsburgh Penguins will draw a first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers. The best-of-seven series will start either Wednesday or Thursday in Pittsburgh as the Penguins begin the quest for a third straight Stanley Cup.
