The Pens finish the season by clinching second place in the Metropolitan Division after their 4-0 shutout of the Ottawa Senators on Friday night at PPG Paints Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Sidney Crosby got the Pens on the board with his 29th goal of the season at the 1:25 mark of the second period, which was also a power play goal. Jake Guentzel scored his 22nd of the season at the 7:31 mark of the second. In the third, Phil Kessel notched his 34th of the season 6:55 into the third, while Patric Hornqvist scored his 29th of the season at the 16:53 mark.
It was a great night, though for Casey DeSmith, the backup goaltender as he stopped all 35 Ottawa shots on goal, earning #1 Star honors on the night.
The Pens end the regular season with a record of 47-29-6, and clinched home-ice advantage through the first round of the playoffs. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
