Jack B. Grube, 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018 at his home in Indiana surrounded by loving family.
He was born in 1932 in Punxsutawney to John and Faye Brigham Grube. His wife, Dorothy Jean Armstrong Grube, the love of his life whom he met in Junior High, survives him. They spent 73 years together.
Jack will be forever remembered by his children – Debra, John and wife Carla, David and wife Marcie, Gary and friend Jean; his grandchildren – Amanda and husband Mike Berk, Ashley and husband Jeff Dekker, Amber and husband Dan Zeiders, Kelsey, Kyle, Kendra, Tyler and wife Gina, Kayla; and also his great grandchildren – Carley, Parker, Westyn, Reese, Leighton, Ellison, Isobel, and Elias. His father, mother, brother Robert and great granddaughter Aubree preceded him in death.
Jack held various jobs after a year of college including a lump breaker at a coal tipple, oiler, drove a coal truck, and worked in a shoe factory before starting a career at Sylvania in Emporium. After 11 years he left Sylvania to join his brother Robert, where they both came back to work at their father’s business, The Punxsutawney Electric Repair Company, now Electro-Mec of Indiana.
He retired in 1995 spending much of his time in Estero, Florida where he was a member of the Estero Country Club and the Estero United Methodist Church. He moved to Indiana in the spring of 2017 to be closer to his family. During the past year he attended Summit Church.
Jack lived a simple life focused on family, friends, his business career, and playing golf. A few of his golf accomplishments include 5 hole-in-ones and the 69 he shot at age 80 on his favorite course, The Vines. His last round of golf he played with his two grandsons was at Shepard’s Rock, with his three sons watching and playing behind them. In fitting style, he holed out his last shot on #18 from 150 yards for an eagle.
Jack’s family was the center of his life. Devotion, integrity and strength were taught in a gentle way. He didn’t tell us how to live; he lived, and let us watch him do it.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes, there will be no public visitation; a private memorial service will be held at Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana.
