The Indiana County Commissioners Wednesday morning approved two loans to acquire land that may be used for a potential distribution center at Windy Ridge Industrial and Technology Park.
The two loans in question are a $250,000 loan from the county’s revolving loan fund and a loan of the same value from the Greater Indiana Enterprise Zone loan fund, with both going to the Indiana County Development Corporation. The proceeds will be used in part to purchase the Turnbull property adjacent to Windy Ridge for the possible distribution center that is looking to move into the area. Byron Stauffer of the county’s office of planning and development said that Indiana is continuing to get close to landing this major distribution headquarters, which has been compared to Pittsburgh possibly landing an Amazon headquarters. He has been in frequent communication with the company in question, and is optimistic that word will come in the next few weeks on where Indiana County stands for that distribution center.
In other business, it was announced by Debra Tingley of the State Treasurer’s office that Indiana County is one of six counties that is taking part in the Keystone Scholars pilot program, which would provide new children in the county with a $100 savings account, with the money being provided through philanthropic efforts. An official launch event will be held April 12th in Indiana County. For more information on the program, you can visit the program’s website, www.pa529.com/keystone
