With the weekend’s IUPatty’s celebrations coming to an end, police have issued reports on several incidents that occurred during the unsanctioned event.
At about 3 PM Saturday, mounted and patrol troopers assisted borough police with breaking up a large gathering along South 7th Street, reported to have consisted of about 300 people. Only one unidentified person from that gathering was arrested, and they were charged with public drunkenness.
Borough police have also charged a man with public intoxication for an incident Sunday morning on North Taylor Avenue. Police were called by a concerned citizen about a man reportedly passed out in his vehicle. Upon arrival, they found 23-year-old Jaylin Edward Lewis of Bridgeville passed out and visibly intoxicated and was behind the wheel of his parked car. He was placed under arrest for public drunkenness and issued a citation for the offense, then taken to Indiana County Jail to sober up.
Police also reported on a theft at the Wayne Avenue Sheetz that happened Sunday morning. Police say that a male juvenile stole a Gatorade from the store and he was caught shortly thereafter. He was taken into custody, charged with theft and underage drinking and released to a guardian. The boy’s identity was not released as he is under the age of 18.
