The un-sanctioned IUPatty’s celebrations got underway last night, and State Police have reported that it has been a busy night for them.
State Police have been involved in 4 “act 64” investigations, which are violations of the controlled substances, drugs, device and cosmetic act; and one investigation each on charges of disorderly conduct, receiving stolen property and underage alcohol possession. Troopers also reported writing 67 traffic citations and 22 warnings on Thursday.
One of the drug cases was the interception of a large amount of heroin and a pistol on its way to Indiana County. State Troopers with the K-9 unit made a traffic stop in Allegheny county, and after consent was granted to search the vehicle, police found 500 grams of heroin and a pistol. The driver, described only as an adult male, was taken into custody.
Another drug seizure happened in Indiana Borough and five men were taken into custody.
State Police say that members of the Troop A Vice and Narcotics unit saw a vehicle driving erratically near the intersection of Philadelphia and 10th Streets at 11:27 PM last night. The car made an illegal stop in the roadway, blocking traffic, and four men got out of the car in an apparent attempt to confront other motorists. When uniformed troopers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, they detected the odor of marijuana, and started a probable cause search of the vehicle. It resulted in the seizure of three large bags of marijuana as well as other items of drug paraphernalia.
Four of the five men charged, 26-year-old Rakim Allen, 39-year-old Taalib-Dan Franks, 39-year-old Ethan Johnson and 27-year-old Khalim Royal, are all from Philadelphia. The fifth, 22-year-old Javonn Gross, is form Woodbury New Jersey. All five face charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. And police found in a subsequent investigation that Royal had an active warrant against him for parole violation. The five were taken to Indiana County Jail to await their preliminary arraignment hearings.
