IUP’s magical women’s basketball season came to an end last night with a 92-68 Final Four loss to top-ranked Ashland.
The defending national champion Eagles are 36-0, extending their NCAA Division II record win streak to 73 games. Ashland shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Crimson Hawks 49-to-26. All-American Alaina Snyder had 23 points, 20 rebounds and six assists. IUP was led by Megan Smith, who scored 21 points, Carolyn Appleby with 17, and Brittany Robinson with 14.
In her final game, IUP senior Megan Smith 21 points enabled her to break Jahzinga Tracy’s all-time school record of 612 points in a season. Smith’s new standard is 625.
Lauren Wolosik’s five assists gave her a single-season IUP record of 175.
Audrey Stapleton also broke a program record, shooting 48.8 percent (39-of-80) from 3-point range this year.
IUP set a program record with 30 wins, and also set records for win percentage (.882) and consecutive home wins (21). This year’s team also tied records for conference wins (20) and fewest losses (4
