Those coming through Indiana Borough and the IUP Campus area this weekend can expect to see an increased police presence for “IUPatty’s” celebrations.
Celebrations are expected to begin tonight and run through Saturday night into Sunday morning, and considering the events of the past, there will be an increased police presence in town. This includes police from the surrounding area providing Indiana Borough and State Police with assistance. It was also announced that there will be no jurisdiction concerns this weekend, so state police may be seen in the Indiana Borough area, if needed, to make arrests.
Authorities will follow a “zero tolerance” approach this weekend. State troopers will be supported by the Mounted Patrol Unit, the bureau of liquor control enforcement, and additional department resources. A DUI checkpoint will be in place for the weekend, and there will also be active supplemental roving patrols, and aggressive traffic enforcement throughout the weekend.
Also as a part of enforcement efforts, the Indiana Borough Code enforcement officers will be out looking for those breaking building code laws, such as occupancy and partying on rooftops.
Police encourage everyone that if you see some suspicious or illegal behavior, do not hesitate to call 911.
