State police in Indiana have issued a news release detailing their plans for the upcoming “IUPattys” festivities. There will be enhanced state police activity starting Thursday and lasting through the weekend, and they say they will follow a “zero tolerance” approach.
State troopers from the Indiana barracks will be supported by the Mounted Patrol Unit, the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, and additional department resources. Specifically, they will operating a DUI checkpoint, supplemental roving patrols, and aggressive traffic enforcement, – quote – “actively patrolling neighborhoods and highways to detect, deter, and investigate all observed and reported criminal activity and traffic violations.”
The release reminders residents and visitors that they can expect to see troopers on horseback, and it is a third degree felony to willfully or maliciously taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick, or strike a police animal.
State police last year made eight DUI arrests, eight drug arrests, six underage drinking arrests, and six more misdemeanor arrests. They issued eighteen public drunkenness and disorderly conduct citations, sixty traffic citations, and 21 written warnings. Working with various other law enforcement officers, they handled 22 parties, fights, and other incidents, and eight incidents of disturbances, noise complaints, and thefts.
Police remind residents and visitors that they should call 911 to report suspicious or criminal activity.
