One of the sure signs of spring may be the fact that there is a rash of brush fires as the season gets underway.
Three brush fires were reported on Monday in Indiana County. One brush fire was on Route 119 North near the intersection with Route 110 in White Township at 11:27 Monday morning. But later in the day, multiple brush fires were reported along the roadway near the Route 119 bypass between Route 422 and Route 286 in White Township. Indiana Fire Association responded to both of those. Bolivar fire department was called out for a brush fire along Front Street in West Wheatfield Township. Several other fire crews were called in to assist or stand-by throughout the day for some of the brush fire calls.
While the causes of the fires is not known at this time, we encourage anyone that if you have a campfire, or are burning garbage or brush, please be careful as the ground in some areas may still be dry, and dry grass will mean an ember could become a full-blown brush fire quickly.
