A meeting of the Indiana Area Collaborative Team, known as I-ACT, will take place today as they get ready for the upcoming IUPatty’s weekend.
The meeting will be held today at 2:30 PM at the KCAC’s PNC room. The meeting will focus on “spring high-celebratory events” including the strategies planned by enforcement agencies and a new student-lead initiative called “IUPLeads”.
The team was formed in 2014 in response to unsanctioned gatherings and parties that made headlines for unruly behavior. Last year, authorities were stretched thin as they were investigating two shooting incidents in Indiana Borough and White township, with one of the incidents the fatal shooting of Carlos Recalde-Campos and the wounding of Samantha Riley at an Oakland Avenue Rental home. Matthew McNevin pleaded guilty in Late February to third degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with that shooting.
The meeting will be attended by many of the stakeholders of the group, including officials from IUP, Indiana Borough, and White Township; law enforcement agencies; emergency management agencies; the county commissioners; community landlords and various business entities.
The celebrations are predicted to start Thursday night and run through Saturday night/Sunday morning.
