Sunday’s sports roundup includes a check of PIAA high school basketball playoffs, the IUP Crimson Hawks women, and in professional sports, a check of the Pirates and the Penguins.
Indiana County’s two Final Four Basketball teams in the PIAA playoffs will play on Monday. Penns Manor will tip off at 6 PM against West Catholic of Philadelphia at Chambersburg High School. Blairsville will play Bellwood Antis, the team it beat in the District 6 semifinals, at 7 o’clock at St. Francis University. The Penns Manor game will be broadcast on WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160, with the pregame beginning at 5, while the Blairsville game will air starting at 6 on Cat Country, 106.3 FM.
Also Monday night, the IUP Crimson Hawks will take on Stonehill College in the NCAA Division Two Elite Eight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Elite Eight Preview show will air on 92.5 FM U92 from 6 to 7 PM, and the Countdown to Tipoff Show will air from 8:30 to tipoff at 9:30 PM.
The Pirates crushed the Minnesota Twins, 13-5 in preseason baseball Saturday in Bradenton. The Bucs face the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays in split squad action Sunday afternoon.
Penguins goaltender Matt Murray returned to full practice Saturday, two weeks after suffering a concussion. Murray should be ready to play again when the Penguins play the Islanders in Brooklyn on Tuesday.
