A Pittsburgh Steelers legend and a member of Indiana County’s law enforcement community will be honored for their work in fighting opioid addiction and abuse at a special event next week in Indiana.
On Saturday, March 24th, Steelers Hall of Famer Franco Harris and Sherriff Bob Fyock and his K-9 Partner Bak will be honored with the Heart of a Champion award at what has been called “An Immaculate Reception”. They will be honored at a special dinner reception at the Indiana Country Club. This is the first time that such an event will take place in Indiana, and it will be emceed by WTAE News Anchor Mike Clark.
Harris said that he has seen the effects of opioid addiction in his close friends and fellow Steelers, and that inspired him to join the fight against heroin and opioid addiction.
The money raised from the special event will go to The Open Door of Indiana to help with their treatment and recovery efforts, and the Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for Community and Behavioral Health at IUP to help with their opioid and heroin research and outreach initiative to prevent opioid abuse.
Tickets are still available for the fundraiser, which starts at 5:30 on Saturday at the Indiana Country Club. For more information, call 724-464-7460.
