The Penguins did not play yesterday, but Washington did, and the Capitals won in overtime to re-take first place in the Metropolitan Division. The Caps’ Alex Ovechkin scored twice in the 3-2 overtime win over Winnipeg to become the 20th player in league history to reach 600 career goals. Ovechkin, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull are the only players to score 600 goals in less than one-thousand games.
The Penguins are headed to New York to take on the Rangers tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are last in the Metro with 69 points.
Evgeni Malkin was named yesterday the NHL’s Third Star of the week for last week’s performances in the Pens’ four games. Malkin scored three goals and five assists for the week.
