A heroin dealer out of Cambria County whose sales resulted in the death of a Clymer man was sentenced yesterday in Federal Court in Pittsburgh.
U.S. District Court Judge Cathy Bissoon sentenced 39-year-old Brad Troup to ten years in prison and three years probation for selling heroin to Jeremiah Huey, who overdosed on the drugs and died in January of 2016. He was also ordered to pay for Huey’s funeral expenses, and that cost will be determined at a future hearing.
Federal drug agents said that Troup sold Huey the drugs on January 15th, knowing that Huey was was just released from rehab, and was in a vulnerable position as his mother nearly died in a car crash and was rushed to a hospital in Pittsburgh. Prosecutor Katherine King said that Troup took advantage of Huey’s emotional state to sell him the drugs. Huey was found dead in his family’s home the next day.
Troup is expected to serve his full term of ten years, as there is no parole in the federal prison system.
