Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke says a search for a new head basketball coach is starting immediately. Pitt fired Kevin Stallings yesterday.
The Panthers were 0-19 in the ACC this year. In two seasons, Stallings was 24-and-41 overall and 4-and-33 in conference play. He has three years left on his contract. Terms on his buyout were not announced.
Among candidates being mentioned for the vacancy are:
- former Ohio State Coach Thad Matta
- Rhode Island’s Dan Hurley
- former NBA coach Eric Musselman, who is now at Nevada
- and former Jamie Dixon Pitt assistant Brandin Knight, a Pitt star in his playing days who is currently an assistant at Rutgers.
